Study aims to predict breathing response in lung injury recovery

NCT ID NCT04524091

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at patients recovering from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) who are on a breathing machine. Researchers want to see if increasing the pressure in the ventilator (called PEEP) can reduce the effort patients need to breathe on their own, which may protect their lungs from further injury. The study will measure lung stiffness and breathing patterns to find a simple way to predict who benefits from higher pressure. About 30 adults on ventilators will take part.
