Could less radiation be better for some cancers?
NCT ID NCT05010031
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a lower dose of radiation can effectively treat metastatic tumors that have a specific genetic change called an ATM mutation. The goal is to find the smallest effective dose to reduce side effects. About 45 adults with advanced cancer and an ATM mutation will receive palliative radiotherapy and be followed for up to 6 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- palliative radiotherapy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that lower radiation doses are effective for ATM-mutated tumors, reducing side effects while maintaining tumor control.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 45 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The reduced dose might not control tumors as well as standard doses.
