New device could make measuring heart health in kids easier

NCT ID NCT02991703

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a simpler device called pOpmètre can accurately measure arterial stiffness in children aged 4 to 8. Arterial stiffness is an important sign of heart and blood vessel health. The standard device, Sphygmocor, is harder to use in children. If pOpmètre works well, it could make checking artery health easier and less stressful for kids.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a simpler, less invasive way to measure arterial stiffness in children, helping detect cardiovascular risk earlier.

What could go wrong

This is a small validation study in 60 children, so results may not apply to all children or settings. The device may not be as accurate as the standard method.
