Placental patch could help shoulder tears heal better
NCT ID NCT07027735
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a patch made from donated placental tissue can help rotator cuff tears heal better after surgery. Half of the 120 participants will get the patch along with standard repair, and the other half will get standard repair alone. An MRI one year later will check if the tendon has healed properly.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
decellularized human placental extracellular matrix allograft patch
What this could lead to
If it works, this patch could reduce the chance of rotator cuff tears coming back after surgery, helping more people regain full shoulder function.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with 120 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The patch might not improve healing over standard surgery, and there are always surgical risks like infection or graft failure.
