Pig cell transplant offers new hope for dangerous diabetes cases

NCT ID NCT06575426

Summary

This first-in-human study is testing whether transplanting specially encapsulated pig pancreas cells can help adults with unstable type 1 diabetes who still experience severe low blood sugar episodes despite using advanced insulin pumps. Researchers will assess the safety of this experimental treatment and determine if it can improve blood sugar control and reduce dangerous hypoglycemia. The study involves a small group of participants who will receive the transplant and be monitored for one year.
