First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase I trial is testing a new drug called ASTX727 (a combination of decitabine and cedazuridine) alongside standard chemotherapy (paclitaxel) and immunotherapy (pembrolizumab) for people with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. The study aims to find the safest dose and check for side effects. It includes 32 adults whose cancer has spread and who have not responded to other treatments. The trial is currently suspended.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

ASTX727 (decitabine and cedazuridine) plus paclitaxel and pembrolizumab

What this could lead to

If it works, this could lead to a new combination treatment that helps shrink or stabilize metastatic triple-negative breast cancer for longer than current standard care.

What could go wrong

This is a very early phase I trial with only 32 participants, so the main goal is safety and dosing—not yet proof of effectiveness. The study is currently suspended, and side effects from combining these drugs could be significant.
