NCT ID NCT06929533
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study is testing whether a simple saliva test can help doctors prescribe mental health medications more safely and effectively. 200 adults in Manitoba who are starting or changing psychiatric drugs will provide a DNA sample. The results will be shared with their doctor to guide drug choice and dosing. The study focuses on whether this approach is practical and acceptable, not yet on whether it improves health outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Pharmacogenetic testing (saliva-based DNA test to guide medication choice)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that genetic testing helps doctors pick better mental health drugs with fewer side effects, paving the way for wider use.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study (200 people) focused on feasibility, not proof of effectiveness. Results may not apply to everyone, and the test may not improve outcomes.
