Heart rhythm breakthrough? new ablation method targets stubborn AF

NCT ID NCT07590661

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding extra ablation to standard treatment can help people with persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat). About 350 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either standard ablation or standard ablation plus isolation of the left atrial posterior wall. Researchers will track heart rhythm for 12 months to see which group has fewer recurrences.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
pulsed field ablation (PFA) procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more effective ablation strategy for persistent atrial fibrillation, reducing recurrence of abnormal heart rhythms.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study (not yet recruiting) with 350 participants. The added procedure may not improve success rates and carries risks like bleeding or heart tissue damage.
