New combo shows promise for rare cancers
NCT ID NCT02406781
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a combination of two drugs—pembrolizumab (an immunotherapy) and cyclophosphamide (a chemotherapy)—in 129 people with advanced sarcomas that had spread or could not be removed by surgery. The goal was to see if the combination could shrink tumors or stop them from growing for at least 6 months. The trial included different types of sarcoma to see which might benefit most.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Pembrolizumab (MK3475) and cyclophosphamide
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced sarcomas that are hard to treat.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial, so results are preliminary. The combination may not work for all sarcoma types and could cause side effects like immune-related reactions.
