Can couples working together cut heart risk in asian indian immigrants?
NCT ID NCT06643806
First seen Sep 24, 2026 · Last updated Sep 25, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers are testing a 12-week program led by peer leaders to help first-generation Asian Indian immigrant couples lower their risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The program addresses diet, physical activity, and acculturation stress through weekly 90-minute classes in person and online. The study compares couples who receive the peer-led program with those who get a basic lifestyle program, measuring changes in a 10-year heart disease risk score and stress levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a 12-week peer leader-facilitated dyadic behavioral intervention
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this approach could offer a culturally tailored way to help immigrant couples lower their heart disease risk together.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study of 44 people, so it may not show clear benefits or translate to larger groups. Lifestyle changes are hard to maintain, and results may not apply beyond this community.
