Teens' tonsil surgery pain: which painkiller works best?
NCT ID NCT07672418
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study observes pain levels in teenagers aged 13-18 after outpatient tonsil and adenoid removal. Participants receive either acetaminophen with ibuprofen or acetaminophen with oral ketorolac, based on their surgeon's usual practice. They report pain and recovery via text surveys for up to 14 days after surgery. The goal is to see which pain relief approach leads to less severe pain and better recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
acetaminophen with ibuprofen or acetaminophen with oral ketorolac
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the best pain relief plan for teens after tonsil surgery, reducing severe pain and speeding recovery.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so it cannot prove one drug is better. Results may vary by surgeon preference and patient differences.
