Peanut power: could a daily snack tame prediabetes?
NCT ID NCT06867198
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether eating peanuts and peanut products daily for six months can improve blood sugar, blood pressure, thinking skills, and gut health in people with prediabetes. Researchers will enroll 72 adults from diverse racial backgrounds. Participants will eat different forms of peanuts (butter, roasted, or flour) on a rotating schedule. The goal is to see if this simple dietary change can help control prediabetes and prevent progression to type 2 diabetes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Peanuts and peanut products (peanut butter, dry roasted peanuts, peanut flour)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary addition to help manage prediabetes and reduce related health risks.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (72 people) testing a food, not a drug. Results may not apply to everyone, and benefits may be modest or not seen at all.
