Peanut power: could this snack fight inflammation in seniors?
NCT ID NCT06348771
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at how a peanut-based meal affects inflammation and appetite in 17 older adults who were overweight. Participants ate either a high-saturated-fat meal or a peanut meal rich in healthy unsaturated fats. Researchers measured blood markers of inflammation and hunger to see if peanuts could help reduce post-meal inflammation. The results may help shape future dietary advice for healthy aging.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
peanut meal (high in monounsaturated fat)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward simple dietary changes to reduce inflammation and support healthy aging in older adults.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, completed study (17 people) that only looked at short-term effects after a single meal. Results may not apply to long-term health or to broader populations.
