First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether eating 50 grams of peanuts daily for 12 weeks can improve liver markers and gut health in adults with metabolic fatty liver disease (MASLD). 125 participants will be randomly assigned to either eat peanuts or stick to their regular diet. Researchers will measure changes in liver enzymes, cholesterol, blood sugar, and gut bacteria.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary change to help manage fatty liver disease.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial testing a food, not a drug. Results may be modest or not apply to everyone. Peanuts are high in calories, so weight gain is a possible risk.
