Could video games help Parkinson's patients? new study tests VR and AR rehab

NCT ID NCT07382401

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) games can be a safe and easy-to-use tool for rehab in people with Parkinson's disease. Thirty healthy volunteers aged 50 to 70 will try the game system for four sessions over two weeks. Researchers will check for motion sickness, how easy the system is to use, and whether people like it. This is a very early test to see if the technology is worth studying in actual Parkinson's patients.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) head-mounted displays with gamified rehabilitation exercises

What this could lead to

If this works, it could point toward a fun, engaging way to help people with Parkinson's do their rehab exercises at home or in therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial in healthy volunteers, not patients. The technology might cause motion sickness or be too hard to use. Success here doesn't guarantee it will help Parkinson's symptoms.
