Hidden in the gut: colonoscopy may spot Parkinson's before symptoms worsen

NCT ID NCT07217054

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study looks at whether tissue samples taken from the colon during a routine colonoscopy can find signs of Parkinson's disease or REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD). Researchers will check for a protein called alpha-synuclein, which is linked to Parkinson's. The goal is to catch the disease earlier, before typical movement symptoms appear. About 40 adults aged 40-99 with Parkinson's or RBD will take part.
