New brain stimulation method could ease Parkinson's symptoms

NCT ID NCT05626608

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a newer 'directional' brain stimulation method works better than the standard 'ring' method for people with Parkinson's disease. Ten participants who already have deep brain stimulation electrodes implanted will try both modes. The goal is to see which one improves motor symptoms more and causes fewer side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

deep brain stimulation with Boston Cartesia(TM) electrodes

What this could lead to

If directional stimulation works better, it could improve motor symptom control and reduce side effects for people with Parkinson's.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early study (10 people) comparing two programming modes, not testing a new cure. It may not show a clear benefit or apply to all patients.
