Could a week of brain zaps ease severe OCD?

NCT ID NCT07561528

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests an accelerated form of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who haven't gotten better with standard treatments. Over 7 days, 30 participants will receive 28 sessions of brain stimulation targeting areas linked to OCD. Researchers will also use EEG brain scans to look for patterns that might predict who responds best.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a faster, non-invasive treatment option for people with OCD that hasn't responded to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intensive 7-day schedule may be hard to tolerate, and not all patients will improve.
