New combo pill aims to boost weight loss and fight inflammation
NCT ID NCT07220629
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether adding an experimental anti-inflammatory drug called NT-0796 to the weight-loss medication semaglutide can help people with obesity lose more weight and reduce inflammation. About 82 adults with a BMI of 30 to 45 will take either the combination or a placebo for 6 months, along with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise. The main goals are to check safety and see if the combination leads to greater weight loss and lower levels of inflammatory markers like hsCRP.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
NT-0796 (an oral anti-inflammatory drug) added to semaglutide (a weight-loss medication)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a more effective combination treatment for obesity, potentially improving weight loss and reducing inflammation.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 2a trial with only 82 participants, so results may not be conclusive. The added drug may cause side effects like nausea or vomiting, and it is unclear if it will provide significant benefit over semaglutide alone.
