First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 03, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether matching weight-loss medications to specific obesity types (like 'hungry brain' or 'emotional hunger') helps people with bipolar disorder lose weight safely. About 100 adults aged 18-65 with bipolar or schizoaffective disorder will receive one of three FDA-approved drugs or no drug, plus virtual group therapy, over 20 weeks. The goal is to find which medication works best for each person's obesity pattern while monitoring mood and side effects.
