New ultrasound technique could replace needle test for liver pressure

Summary

This study tests whether a special ultrasound technique (SHAPE) can detect high blood pressure in the liver without using a needle. Portal hypertension is a serious condition that can lead to severe liver damage and death. The standard test requires inserting a catheter into a vein, which is invasive and risky. Researchers will enroll 60 adults scheduled for the standard test and compare results from the ultrasound method. If successful, this could allow for safer, easier monitoring of liver pressure.
