Cancer Patients' mental health under the microscope: new study tracks emotional toll

NCT ID NCT07168096

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study follows 540 adults with solid cancers to see how their anxiety and depression levels change over six months. Participants fill out questionnaires about their mood, coping, and quality of life at the start, 3 months, and 6 months. No drugs or treatments are given—the goal is to learn what factors predict emotional distress so doctors can offer better support.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify which cancer patients are at higher risk for anxiety and depression, leading to better tailored mental health support.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not directly change patient outcomes, and results may not apply to all cancer types or settings.
