Nasal spray may prevent post-surgery confusion in seniors

NCT ID NCT07538284

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether a nasal spray called dexmedetomidine, taken at night, can help older adults (ages 65-90) sleep and reduce the risk of postoperative delirium after major abdominal surgery. Half of the 400 participants will receive the spray, and half will receive a placebo. The goal is to see if this simple approach can prevent confusion and improve recovery.
