Fatty liver secrets revealed in obesity surgery study
NCT ID NCT07662356
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 200 obese Chinese patients undergoing weight-loss surgery to understand how nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) progresses. Researchers will take liver biopsies during surgery and track health markers over time. The goal is to find better ways to predict and monitor NAFLD, which can lead to serious liver damage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors better predict and monitor NAFLD in obese patients, leading to earlier detection and improved management.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not directly lead to new therapies, and results may only apply to Chinese patients with obesity.
