Summary

This trial tests whether a traditional Chinese music therapy, called Ziwu Liuzhu Five-Element Music Therapy, can reduce anxiety in people with pancreatic cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy. The study will enroll 320 patients with mild-to-moderate anxiety and randomly assign them to either listen to specific musical modes at set times for 8 weeks, or to participate in a standard stress reduction program. The goal is to see if the music therapy is at least as effective as the stress reduction program in improving anxiety and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Ziwu Liuzhu Five-Element Music Therapy, a behavioral intervention involving listening to specific musical modes at designated times, compared to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease anxiety and improve quality of life for people undergoing chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial, and the music therapy may not prove as effective as standard stress reduction. Results depend on patient adherence and may not apply to all cancer patients.
