Could MRI replace x-rays for infertility checks?

NCT ID NCT02108665

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compared two imaging methods for diagnosing female infertility: MRI with a contrast dye and traditional X-ray. The goal was to see if MRI, which uses no radiation, could provide a complete and accurate assessment. Forty women participated, and researchers measured how well MRI detected uterine abnormalities compared to X-ray.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, MRI could replace X-ray for infertility diagnosis, offering a safer, radiation-free option.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 40 participants. Results may not apply to all women, and MRI may not be as accurate as X-ray in all cases.
