New stimulation pattern could ease tough back pain

NCT ID NCT07190807

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study is testing a new way to use an already-approved spinal cord stimulator to treat chronic, hard-to-manage back and leg pain. The device sends mild electrical pulses to the spine, and the new setting (called TVP-SCS) varies the timing of those pulses. Researchers will enroll 70 adults with persistent pain and track how many get at least 50% pain relief after 3 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Boston Scientific WaveWriter Alpha™ SCS System (spinal cord stimulator device with Time Varied Pulse settings)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new, more effective way to manage chronic back and leg pain using an already-approved spinal cord stimulator.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The new settings might not provide better pain relief than existing options.
