Eye-Opening study: watching pupils and eyelids to prevent awareness during surgery

NCT ID NCT07199049

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study watches eye reflexes, eye movements, and pupil size in 60 adults having planned abdominal surgery under general anesthesia. The goal is to see if these simple eye signs can help doctors know how deep the anesthesia is and spot when a patient might be waking up during surgery. Researchers will compare these signs with standard brain monitoring to find a non-invasive way to prevent intraoperative awareness.
