New minimally invasive surgery could ease recovery for kids with spine curvature
NCT ID NCT07594574
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares a new, less invasive surgery to the standard open surgery for children with paralytic scoliosis (a curved spine) after a spinal cord injury. The minimally invasive approach uses smaller cuts and aims to correct the spine while causing less blood loss, fewer complications, and shorter hospital stays. The trial includes 39 children aged 6 to 20 with severe pelvic tilt and spine curvature.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Posterior minimally invasive correction surgery
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a safer, less traumatic surgical option for children with paralytic scoliosis, reducing hospital stays and complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 39 participants, so results may not apply to all children. Surgery always carries risks like infection or implant issues.
