Heart drug fails to prove benefit for lung failure patients

NCT ID NCT05847517

First seen Jun 03, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tested whether a heart medication called metoprolol, given through a vein, could help people with severe lung failure (ARDS) breathe on their own sooner. The trial planned to include many patients but was stopped early after only 14 people joined. Researchers measured days alive without a breathing machine, but the small number of participants makes it hard to draw firm conclusions.
