Summary

This study is testing whether metformin, a common diabetes medicine, can reduce the risk of death, heart attacks, and strokes in veterans who have pre-diabetes and already have heart or blood vessel disease. About 7,410 participants will receive either metformin or a placebo. The goal is to see if metformin can help control the disease and prevent serious cardiovascular events.
