First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether daily meditation can improve recovery for children and adults having surgery for kidney stones. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a meditation group or a control group. Those in the meditation group will practice a daily 20-minute guided meditation for 2-4 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks after. The study will measure changes in pain, anxiety, and depression using questionnaires.

- meditation
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to help patients feel less pain and anxiety during kidney stone surgery recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Meditation may not reduce pain or anxiety more than usual care.
