First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a therapy called Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy for Latinos (MCP-L) can help reduce anxiety and depression in 300 Latino patients with advanced cancer. Participants receive either MCP-L or standard cognitive behavioral therapy over about 3 months. The goal is to see if focusing on meaning and cultural values improves emotional well-being and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy for Latinos (MCP-L), a structured 7-session therapy focusing on meaning and coping with advanced cancer
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a culturally tailored therapy to help Latino patients with advanced cancer feel less anxious and depressed.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral intervention study, so results depend on participant engagement and may not apply to all groups. The therapy may not outperform standard CBT.
