Breathing in a harmless gas to see inside lungs: new study for cystic fibrosis

NCT ID NCT07192679

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests advanced lung imaging (MRI with xenon gas) and breathing tests to better understand lung function in people with cystic fibrosis. 60 participants will be followed over time. The goal is to see if these new methods can detect changes more precisely than standard tests.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better ways to monitor lung health in cystic fibrosis, helping doctors catch changes earlier.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not directly improve patient outcomes, and the new imaging methods might not prove more useful than standard tests.
