Magnets in the gut: a new way to treat diabetes?
NCT ID NCT07350967
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new magnetic device that creates a shortcut in the small intestine, aiming to help control type 2 diabetes and weight. Only 5 people will take part to see if the procedure is safe and feasible. It is an early-stage trial, so the main goal is to check if the magnets can be placed correctly and form a lasting connection without major surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Magnetic compression anastomosis device (EMMIT System)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a less invasive, reversible way to help control type 2 diabetes and weight without traditional surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a tiny early study with only 5 participants, so results may not apply widely. The device could fail to form a proper connection or require surgical removal.
