Lymphedema surgery study aims to see if going under the knife boosts quality of life
NCT ID NCT03248310
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 600 people with lymphedema to compare quality of life between those who choose surgery (a lymph node transfer) and those who choose non-surgical management. Participants fill out questionnaires about their symptoms and daily life over time. The goal is to understand which approach leads to better long-term outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If this study shows that surgery improves quality of life more than non-surgical care, it could help guide treatment decisions for people with lymphedema.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so results may be influenced by patient choice rather than the treatment itself. It is also limited to English-speaking participants.
