Can swollen limbs throw off your balance? a study investigates
NCT ID NCT07744906
First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether women with lymphedema in one leg have worse balance and body awareness compared to healthy women. Lymphedema causes swelling due to fluid buildup, which may make the limb feel heavy and affect how the body senses and controls movement. Researchers will assess balance and body awareness in 28 women with lymphedema and 28 healthy women to see if these abilities are linked to the severity of the condition.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Balance and body awareness assessments (Mini-BESTest and Body Awareness Questionnaire)
- What this could lead to
- If balance and body awareness are found to be worse in severe lymphedema, it could point toward adding balance training to lymphedema rehabilitation.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small observational study, so results may not apply to all lymphedema patients. It only measures associations, not whether treatment improves balance.
