New stent aims to seal Post-Surgery leaks without another operation
NCT ID NCT06862479
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new device called the Luso-Cor esophageal stent for closing leaks (fistulas) that can happen after weight-loss or cancer surgery on the stomach or esophagus. About 180 adults will be enrolled and their outcomes compared to those treated with standard stents or vacuum therapy. The goal is to see if the new stent is safer and more effective at sealing these leaks.

- Luso-Cor esophageal stent
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a safer, more effective way to close post-surgery leaks without additional surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a registry study, not a randomized trial, so results may be less conclusive. The stent may not outperform existing methods and could have complications like migration or blockage.
