Can periodic puffs prevent lung collapse during spine surgery?

Summary
This study looks at whether doing repeated lung re-opening maneuvers during spine surgery (while lying face-down) reduces lung collapse compared to the usual single maneuver. About 60 adults having elective lumbar spine surgery will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The researchers will use lung ultrasound to check lung aeration before the end of surgery.
