Could less radiation be just as good for sarcoma?
NCT ID NCT04288375
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether giving a lower dose of radiation to a smaller area after surgery for soft tissue sarcoma works as well as the standard approach. The goal is to control the cancer while causing fewer long-term side effects. The trial includes 65 adults who had their tumor removed with clear margins and will receive 50 Gy of radiation over 25 sessions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- radiation therapy (IMRT)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a new standard of care that reduces long-term side effects from radiation while still controlling the sarcoma.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small Phase 2 study with only 65 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Lowering the dose could also increase the risk of the cancer coming back.
