Could a cholesterol drug gel help heal your gums?
NCT ID NCT07282756
First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tests whether a gel containing lovastatin (a cholesterol drug) placed under the gum can improve standard gum disease treatment. About 44 adults with periodontitis, both smokers and non-smokers, will receive the medicated gel on one tooth and a placebo gel on another after deep cleaning. Researchers will measure gum pocket depth and inflammation over six months to see if the gel boosts healing.
