Can a simple blood test tell if cancer is really gone?
NCT ID NCT06287723
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a blood test that looks for cancer DNA (called ctDNA) can find leftover cancer cells after surgery in people with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver. The goal is to see which test works best at predicting if the cancer will come back. Thirty adults who are having surgery to remove their liver metastases will give blood samples, and researchers will track their health for three years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- liquid biopsy (ctDNA analysis)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors know which patients need extra treatment after surgery and which do not, reducing unnecessary side effects.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (30 people) focused on comparing different tests, not on proving a new treatment works. The tests may not be accurate enough to change practice yet.
