First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether shining low-level infrared light on the scalp (photobiomodulation) can lower stress and improve seizure control in people with epilepsy. Eighty adults with epilepsy will attend 45 sessions over 15 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in perceived stress and seizure patterns.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- photobiomodulation (low-level light therapy)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a non-invasive way to reduce stress and possibly seizure frequency in people with epilepsy.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early study with no control group, so results may be due to placebo. The effect on seizures is uncertain, and the time commitment is high.
