New laser microscope could help surgeons save nerves during prostate cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT07541911
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new microscope called LaserSAFE that scans the removed prostate during surgery to see if cancer cells are at the edge. If it works well, surgeons can decide right away whether to spare nearby nerves. About 693 men with prostate cancer will take part, and the study will check how accurate and fast the method is.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LaserSAFE (confocal microscopy)
What this could lead to
If successful, LaserSAFE could give surgeons real-time information during prostate surgery to safely preserve nerves, improving recovery and quality of life for patients.
What could go wrong
This is a diagnostic test, not a treatment. It may not be accurate enough in practice, and the study is still recruiting. Results may not apply to all prostate cancer patients.
