AI coaches doctors on cancer risk talks
NCT ID NCT05923684
First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether giving doctors and patients feedback from AI analysis of their consultations can improve how prostate cancer risks are communicated. Men newly diagnosed with localized prostate cancer will have their initial treatment consultations recorded. An AI system will extract key statements about prognosis, life expectancy, and side effects, and both patients and doctors will receive feedback within two weeks. The goal is to see if this feedback reduces patient uncertainty and improves risk understanding, potentially leading to better shared decision-making.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Natural language processing (NLP)-based feedback on consultation recordings
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could improve how doctors explain risks and options to men with prostate cancer, leading to more informed treatment decisions.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The feedback system depends on English-language recordings and may not capture all nuances of communication.
