New Laser-Ointment combo could replace surgery for skin cancer

NCT ID NCT07010692

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a special laser followed by tirbanibulin ointment can effectively treat common skin cancers like basal and squamous cell carcinoma. About 100 adults with biopsy-confirmed skin cancers will receive the laser treatment and, if needed, apply the ointment for five nights. The goal is to clear the cancer without surgery, improving appearance and recovery.

Tirbanibulin ointment 1%
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a non-surgical treatment option for common skin cancers, reducing the need for invasive procedures and improving cosmetic outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment may not clear the cancer completely, and recurrence is possible.
