First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks at whether closing a tiny sac in the heart (the left atrial appendage) during heart surgery can prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation. About 1500 adults having planned heart surgery are taking part. Doctors will compare those whose sac was closed to those whose was not, tracking strokes and silent brain injuries over time.
