Mismatched kidney transplants boost survival in seniors
NCT ID NCT07436338
First seen Mar 10, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study looked at 1,819 patients aged 60 or older with end-stage kidney disease. It compared those who received a living donor kidney transplant that was not a perfect match (ABO- or HLA-incompatible) to those who stayed on the waiting list or got a deceased donor kidney. The goal was to see if getting a mismatched transplant earlier could help them live longer. Results suggest that even with mismatched kidneys, older patients may have better survival than waiting for a perfect match.
