Mismatched kidney transplants boost survival in seniors

NCT ID NCT07436338

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 1,819 elderly patients (aged 60+) with end-stage kidney disease to see if getting a living donor kidney transplant that is not a perfect match (ABO- or HLA-incompatible) helps them live longer compared to waiting for a compatible deceased donor. The approach uses desensitization therapy to reduce the risk of rejection. Results suggest that earlier transplantation with a mismatched kidney may improve survival for older patients.
