Antifungal drug explored as brain tumor treatment – study halted early
NCT ID NCT04869449
First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This early-phase study tested whether ketoconazole, a drug used for fungal infections, can enter glioblastoma brain tumors in high enough amounts to stop cancer cells from dividing. Only one adult with a high-grade glioma was enrolled before the study was terminated. The goal was to measure drug levels in the tumor and check safety, not to provide a treatment.
