Can online therapy or parent coaching ease childhood anxiety? a head-to-head trial aims to find out.
NCT ID NCT07024758
First seen Jul 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares two forms of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for children and teens with anxiety or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). One approach uses internet-delivered modules with therapist guidance; the other trains parents to lead exposure exercises with their child. The goal is to see which method works better when in-person therapy is hard to access. About 174 youth aged 7 to 17 with significant anxiety or OCD symptoms will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- cognitive-behavioral therapy delivered via internet modules or parent-coached exposure sessions
- What this could lead to
- If one approach proves more effective, it could expand access to proven anxiety treatments for children and teens, especially in areas with few therapists.
- What could go wrong
- This is a comparative effectiveness trial, not a test of a new drug; both therapies already show promise, but the study may find they work equally well or that one only helps certain families.
